Animal Farm // 21.02.12 // Ancient Methods Preview
This week we welcome the Resurface residents into the studio as they prepare for their launch night @ La Cheetah this weekend with heavy hitting techno act ANCIENT METHODS
A force to be reckoned with, Ancient Methods have forged a unique identity, striking a balance on each release between devastating four to the floor crunchers and off-beat, broken techno. This is uncompromising, raw techno that does not sacrifice quality or care. A great chance to see one of techno's most exciting acts up close and personal!

lucy @ code preview
Animal Farm // 17.01.12 // Lucy @ CODE Preview
As the head of Stroboscopic Artefacts LUCY rolls into CODE @ La Cheetah this weekend, we welcome resident NICK M into the studio for a mix.
Lucy: producer, DJ, founder of Stroboscopic Artefacts. That’s probably how you know him. But there’s also Luca Mortellaro, a published author, experimental sound designer, and the man behind the Lucy moniker. There’s no doubt that the two are linked, but it’s certainly the hidden facets of Luca Mortellaro that are responsible for the dynamic output of Lucy.
Lucy’s DJ sets are techno layered with deep dub and textured with lucid IDM. Never one to shy away from ripping into the peak time and equally in his element playing the ecstatic afterhours, elegance is the foundation of his approach. He manages to refuse the obvious and yet satisfies dancefloors’ appetites for the unexpected. A quick listen to his CLR podcast, Resident Advisor mix or the Modyfier process will attest to one thing: his elusive approach is too angular for genres and pigeon holes.

Animal Farm // 13.12.11 // Guest Mix - Tom Dicicco (project squared/ISM)
For our last show of this year we welcome Manchester's TOM DICICCO.
Tom is slowly but surely marking himself as someone to watch in 2012. Recent releases for Project Squared & Stockholm LTD has seen his excellent take of dub infected techno make more than a few heads turn this year. His mix skips effortlessly through some of the years biggest techno tracks.
Animal Farm residents will be on hand as always, although we are still in bits after Robert Hood's performance at the Sub Club last friday....We'll be going through some of our favourite tracks of the last year. An hour really isn't enough though.....
Thanks to all for tuning in this year! Remember our 7th Birthday celebrations on 28th December with ROLANDO then we kick off 2012 with bang with SANDWELL DISTRICT live (Regis & Function).
See you all in the new year!!

As this week, in conjunction with Subculture, Animal Farm bring one techno's luminaries MORITZ VON OSWALD along with long time friend and collaborator TIKIMAN, I thought we would take a special look at the deep and wonderful world of Dub Techno.
In the first hour we'll take a look at the more contemporary edge of the genre and how Moritz's (alongside Mark Ernestus) blueprint has inspired a generation of producers to follow in their rather large footsteps.
The second hour will be dedicated to the pick of Animal Farm's favourites from the many original tracks and remixes from Basic Channel/ Maurizio / Rhythm & Sound / Main Street back catalogue.

av take over
Animal Farm // 27.09.11 // AV TAKE OVER
This week the boys from AV takeover the Subcity studio to preview their upcoming event @ Chambre 69 with Pokerflat's ANDRADE
AV returns with another quality line up having found a new subterranean dwelling in Glasgow city centre. Located underneath Urban outfitters on Buchanan street, Chambre 69 will host the next wave of AV parties with the team enhancing the club with their updated visual rig and musical selection.
This October AV bring's Parisian young pup Andrade into town for his Glasgow debut which is not one to be missed. Olivier has been cooking up a storm on the continent this year, releasing his 'Talk About' E.P on the highly acclaimed Poker Flat recordings and gaining respect from reputable house heavy weights Steve Bug, Karotte, Milton Jackson, Ralph Lawson and Alex Niggemann. Well known for his 'funky, post-minimal tech house' productions, Andrade reflects this in his Dj sets so expect plenty of solid, chunky house music with a splash or two of techno on the night.
AV resident Eddie Wagner and Animal Farm's Darren Quail will finish the night off b2b and the warm up will be provided by local veteran Dj, Colin Mclaren - back by popular demand after last years bouncing set in December! As always, AV's Andrew Winton will furnish the walls with a super abundance of visual entertainment………………….. so get your fine asses down!
Afterparty activities will also take place as usual at the not so secret - secret location x

As this years broadcast are shortly coming to a close we bring you YET ANOTHER exclusive mix from the depths of the techno world!
Shrouded in anonymity, Shifted’s productions are fuelled by a personal passion for techno.
A passion that represents an earnest expression of creativity from an enigmatic artist; freed from the restrictions of expectation and reputation. Shifted, whose identity is, for the time being, classified, but whose pedigree cannot be questioned. The debut on Luke Slater’s high-flying Mote Evolver imprint speaks for itself. His own label AVIAN has just released it's first ep to critical acclaim with much more to follow!

So back to tonight's show!
Special guest mix from newcomer to he techno scene MARCELUS. With only two ep's to his name, this young French producer has definitely made a stamp on the world of techno. Releasing on Dj Deep's DEEPLY ROOTED HOUSE, EP1 was a deep atmospheric stomper, designed to destroy dance floors worldwide! EP2 offers more of the same, with tinges of acid bouncing between metallic drums, twisted between rasping hi-hats, head down, dancing fodder!
Marcelus' mix provides us with more of his house influences, drawing on more recent techno at the end. A great Summer's night listening!

---------------------------------------------------
Sasha Carassi Bio...
Sasha Carassi's comprehensive discography has spanned the last 7 years with his sound and production style developing throughout. The success of his track "Hypercombo' released on Adam Beyers imprint Drumcode reached the top ten Beatport techno charts in 2010 and the top 100's are continually peppered with his no nonsense four to the floor productions. Harthouse, Sleaze, 8 Sided Dice, Rekluse, MB Electronics, Paragraph and even Chicago house label Guidance recordings have featured either a remix or an original giving you an idea of the scope of his musicality.
Fresh off the back of a rocking remix of Erphun's 'Brood2' and SLAM's 'Collecting Data', Sasha's productions continue to go from strength to strength gaining support from industry hard hitters ( Stephan Bodzin, SLAM, Tom Hades, Alan Fitzpatrick, Virgil Enzinger, Umek, Dustin Zahn, Spektre and The Advent ) as well as actively collaborating with fellow Italian, Joseph Capriati. As founder of Globox and Phobiq recordings the guy know how dance music should sound with super crisp production, powerful grooves splashed with twisted reverberations, noise and effects guaranteed in all of his works.
Sasha's Dj sets combine his love of techno, funk and breakbeat that create an explosive mixture that's definitely not to be missed.

Extra special how this week as we host a fantastic guest mix from the highly secretive HORIZONTAL GROUND collective. provided by producer 1N4.
Since parent label FROZEN BORDER launched in early 2009, the collective have fired out some of the most modern innovative techno in years which is reminiscent of artists such as Dan Bell, Robert Hood, Basic Channel, Downwards Mexus 21/Mark Archer, LFO, Robert Gordon, Peter Ford, Joey Beltram and Sleeparchive.
Since Horizontal Ground was released as a sub label, it can boast a large number of the world's top ranking djs as followers, with the outlook that it should be more about the music than the producer behind it.

guest - markus suckut (stroboscopic / figure spc)
Animal Farm // 01.03.11 // Guest - Markus Suckut (Stroboscopic / Figure)
Up and coming German producer MARKUS SUCKUT delivers this weeks guest mix.
http://soundcloud.com/markussuckut
Markus’ own musical history began in 1999, at the brink of the new millennium an interest in electronic music was awakened in the young, Germany-based Markus. At the time it was less about committing to one musical direction, than about the excitement of DJing and testing sonic limits. Carried along by the excitement of these inital impressions Markus began to teach himself to mix and within a few short years his first productions followed.
It’s hard to categorise someone who himself detests thinking about music in narrow-minded categories and who takes influence from many different styles of music. His own productions are best described plainly and simply with the word techno, techno which often and willingly becomes dub. His sets are wide reaching, and even if they have a common basis it’s difficult to describe what exactly they have in common. Perhaps it is soul, a bit of dreaminess and a tendency towards melancholy that best characterise Markus and his music.
Good things take time. A good story can’t be told in passing; accordingly Markus Suckut can be seen as one of the most vocal opponents of short sets, and of a club culture where the next DJ jostles impatiently in the booth waiting impatiently for the start of their own set. To play in his own style, leading the crowd and casting a spell over it, delighting listeners with records selections that go beyond the remit of any kind of DJ charts, this is his world. And in the company of someone who loves to listen to elaborate stories, who detects subtlety while simultaneously appreciating current trends, the listener is in very good hands with both his productions and his sets.

Since releasing his debut album on Soma a couple of years back, Harvey's profile has sky rocketed with gigs flowing in at home and abroad with his more recent releases being backed by some of the bigget names in the techno world. Harvey's tracks bring a power and groove that only he can deleiver. Staying true to his passion of tough, driving techno, his versatility as a dj allows him to bring out his deeper side, often delving into deep & tech house.

guest mix - oliver deutschmann (vidab records)
Animal Farm // 07.12.10 // Guest Mix - Oliver Deutschmann (Vidab Records)
Yet another EXCLUSIVE mix for us here at Animal Farm! OLIVER DEUTSCHMANN - VIDAB
For the past few years Oliver Deutschmann has been an integral part of the techno and house scene of Berlin via his label Vidab, studio productions, and djing. His huge passion for music was injected at a very early age. He spent most of his time recording music from radio stations on tapes, spending all his money on vinyl and doing compilation tapes for his friends.
His first contact with techno music was in the early 90s. Some friends took him to a club in Southern Germany called Oktan. He immediately felt the power of the beat that took him on a whole night dancing journey. Oliver has always been impressed with the vibe of the techno-community and its power, which freely places in the hands of the dj the responsibility of selections, enabling him to play with the wide borders of techno and house music. Small parties followed where he was increasing his skills and so he got „discovered“and was booked to more and bigger parties and clubs. The reputation grew and he was booked in clubs like the WMF, Globus/Tresor or the Maria. During those days Oliver also began to organize parties by himself at clubs such as the Goldengate Club Berlin.
Producing electronic music was the next natural step, and in the beginning of 2007 he co-founded the label Vidab-Records, distributed by Kompakt, together with his partner Stephan Hill. Since then, Vidab is releasing permanently and the number of people who share the musical vision of the label is growing constantly. As of January 2008 Oliver and his partner Stephan are also holding their Vidab label nights in Berlin’s Panorama Bar with a lot of more good things to come in the future.

guest - klartraum - live
Animal Farm // 30.11.10 // Guest - KLARTRAUM - Live
This week we have the German production outfit of Helmut Ebritsch & Nadja Lind aka KLARTRAUM.
In mid-2006, after a lucky “co-incident” had happened on a virtual musician platform “Pulsar Records”, when Nadja Lind (international DJ, Groove Magazin Top 10 best remixer 2008 - G-Man aka Gez Varley rmx) and Helmut Ebritsch (Hatikvah, Morris Audio, Baalsaal) met for the 1st time through their music. From then on they have been creating music together, mutually influenced by their personalities and personal growth. Klartraum has emerged! After a very short time Klartraum was singed and released their 1st EP. It was back on New Year´s eve in 2007, when Nadja and Helmut took their creativity a great step ahead by linking up their devices in order to create a constant flow, not only when performing live, but even during the creational process of new compositions. Latest release of the berlin-based project appeared at Absurd Recordings (Passion EP with remixes by Mark Henning, Marek Hemmann, Chopstick&Johnjon). They have performed live at Berlin's leading clubs like Rechenzentrum, Maria, Funkhaus and also performed at IBIZA GLOBAL RADIO's Silicone Soul's broadcasting show Darkroom Dubs and many more. It is no surprise that they increasingly receive appreciation with their live performances by a constantly growing fan-base. They have just returned from USA where they performed live in the desert of Utah. In July 2009 Klartraum released their 1st EP "All Dimensions" on their own label LUCIDFLOW and in October Lucidflow 002, a Nadja Lind release called "Maturity" with huge support from the world's top djs!

guest - marko fürstenberg (live)
Animal Farm // 23.11.10 // Guest - Marko Fürstenberg (LIVE)
This week we have a recording of the awesome Marko Fürstenberg live from New York in 2008. Those unfamiliar with Markos excellent take on the Dub Techno sound should definitely check him out! Starting his electronic life on the netlabel "Thinner", Marko has become one of Germany's finest purveyors of the modern Basic Channel sound
Marko Fürstenberg was born in December 1976 and raised in the center of Germany. In the middle of the 80's he became interested in electronic music above the EBM and Wave hype. At the beginning of the 90's he began to concern intensively with electronic music and started to mix tracks, with tape recorders. In the middle of the 90's and with the period of Basic Channel and Chain Reaction he discovered the mentioned pioneers of dubelectronica. Bound of the deep, heavy rhythms Marko quitted his job as DJ and began setting up an own studio. At the end of of 1999 he settled into a particularly furnished basement to install his studio. There he started experimenting with different styles. In the fall of 2001 the project VERTIKAL23 was founded, setting Surphase to work at songs together with other musicians and DJ’s. At the beginning of of 2002 he discovered the NetLabel Thinner and was inspired enough by their releases, so it took a short time until his first EP „Dub Expo“ came out. Regarding the Thinner Vinyls, he changed his name under which he released before from "Dolby" to "Surphase". His latest Tracks came out under his real name Marko Fürstenberg and these tracks are more Basic Channel inspired than everything before.

guest mix - skudge
Animal Farm // 09.11.10 // Guest Mix - SKUDGE
Special guest LIVE set this week from Swedish duo SKUDGE.
Since exploding onto the techno scene earlier this year with the Convolution Ep, Sweden's Skudge have found their way into all the big players record boxes. Still with only a handfull of releases on their own self titled label and a few remixes, they bring a classic-yet-fresh style laced with hypnotic beats, stealthily building chords and gritty baselines.

Animal Farm // 02.11.10 // Guest : IAN KERR (Wax Works)
This week we have Ian Kerr from WAX WORKS, a soon to be stable in the Glasgow clubbing scene. With a unique 'vinyl only' policy Ian will be dropping a one hour mix to give you an idea of what to expect from their opening night in AD LIB. Heck, we may even ask him a few questions as to why he has decided to stick with the traditional wax. Why? 'cos we're nice like that....

luke hess (detroit) guest mix
Animal Farm // 26.10.10 // Luke Hess(Detroit) Guest Mix)
After a mighty night on Friday with Marcel Fengler & Ryan Elliott (who is officially the biggest party animal I have EVER met!) things are eventually getting back to normal....well sort of
This week we have a special guest mix from Detroits very own LUKE HESS. A personal favourite for a long time, it's a real pleasure to have this boy on the show. Expect deep electronics from the Motor City!
Luke Hess [DeepLabs / FXHE / Planet-e / Echocord / Echocord Colour / Beretta Grey / Kontra-Musik / Modelisme / Ornaments]
www.hess-labs.com
Born in 1980 and raised in the Detroit area, Luke Hess has harnessed a deep appreciation for electronic music and the expression of the underground movement. His background in mathematics and engineering have given him a scientific approach to the dance floor. His music production has landed him a seat with Beretta Music and FXHE in Detroit, Kontra-Musik in Sweden, Modelisme Records in France, and Echocord in Denmark. His first release on FXHE made it into the top 50 releases of the year in 2007 in Groove Magazine. In 2010 Luke launched is own interpretation of the Detroit Techno sound on his own vinyl label DeepLabs. With 10 years of DJ experience, he is regarded as a perfectionist behind the decks, layering records in a very detailed and hypnotic manner. Luke has notable mixes online and in 2003 recorded a promotional mix CD release for UR/Submerge. Luke’s continued hard work behind the decks and in the studio combined with his unyielding interest in technology and sound will no doubt stimulate the boundaries of electronic music.

john daly (feel music, drumpoet) exclusive mix!
Animal Farm // 12.10.10 // John Daly (Feel Music,Drumpoet) exclusive mix!
For the first in a long line of special guest mixes here on Animal Farm Radio we have Ireland's don of deep house JOHN DALY
Hailing from Cork, Ireland, John Daly first surfaced in 2005 on his then newly founded label, Feel Music. Since then he has recorded for numerous labels, including Plak Records, Drumpoet Community, IRR, Mule Musiq, and Francois K's Wave Music, on which he released the acclaimed album Sea & Sky in 2009. In addition to his own material, he has remixed for Labels such as Rekids, Running Back, Compost, and Poker Flat amongst many others.
Born into a musical family, he has been composing music since his early teens, starting out in bands, but moving quickly on to the studio environment, and working with machines, a love of which he retains to this day, still preferring to work with real instruments as opposed to virtual ones.
A product of Cork's vibrant club scene of the 90s, and drawing from a broad range of influences, his music seeks to break down the barriers between House Music, Disco, Dub and Techno. These past 5 years have seen him take this sound to dancefloors across the globe, from NYC (Cielo, Sunday Best) to Berlin (Berghain, Watergate, Tape), London to Tokyo (Air), Sydney to Moscow (Propaganda) and in between.
In addition to launching a second label, One Track Records, focusing more on peak time sounds and alternate versions/DJ tools, 2010 saw him debut as a much anticipated live act. He now spends a large portion of his studio time making music exclusively for these live sets, with it's focus firmly on the dancefloor. Often tailor made for specific events/venues, much of this new material will never be released, in an attempt to create a real world experience in an increasingly digital, online age

Animal Farm // 28.05.10 // Quail & Ronin Back 2 Back
Howdy!
I'm joined this week by co-resident at Animal Farm, RONIN for an hours back 2 back set.
Ronin originally set up Off The Record around 8 years ago and has been playing music for over a decade now. His sets can take in anything from breaks to deep house, his old "squeeks & bleeps" and now even a smattering of dubstep! Ronin was also part of a live act known as DEFAULT with Orsan Kart and played live numerous times at The Soundhaus.
expect something deep today however as myself & Ronin rattle the Subcity sweatbox of a studio shake its very foundations!

isodyne guest mix!
Animal Farm // 23.04.10 // ISODYNE Guest Mix!
Animal Farm is back on SUBCITY!!!
On this weeks show we have a very special & EXCLUSIVE guest mix from Patrick Walker aka ISODYNE.
Isodyne is the side project of Forward Strategy Group's : Patrick Walker and showcases the spaced out and abstract sound-sphere which influences his work in the techno world.
Rather than being influenced by the current trend in 'Hardwax' compatible sounds being charted by some of the worlds trendsetters, this sound was concieved as a reaction to his environment long before the words dub-techno or dubstep were in use. His work is frequently compared with the likes of Moritz Von Oswald, Pole and Burial in the music press and he is currently enjoying a cult following within the underground music scenes, through a slew of self pressed - ultra limited releases and previously through releases on Kompakt digital.
With tracks licenced to the next Fabric live compilation under the Forward Strategy Group moniker, and recent gigs alongside TRG, Marcel Dettmann, Sandwell District, Mike Denhert Go Hiyama, Sugar Experiment Station and Silent Servant, Patrick is currently looking into releasing more of his work as isodyne and we can expect a vinyl offering at some point in 2010.
The set presented here is a mixture of live and DJ, using his own work as well as recent collaborations with Charlton Ravenberg (arms, assault, labrynth), Inigo Kennedy/Reducer and Smear (retail & lesiure, forward strategy group). There are also a couple of tracks from people who have been supportive of his work in the form of live edits and a complete dub reworking of an old King Tubby classic !
This is a great warm up to our Sub Club Event featuring techno dons REGIS & FUNCTION aka SANDWELL DISTRICT
enjoy...i know i will :)
