Argonaut Sounds Reggae Soundsystem returns to Blackfriars Basement on Friday 21st October for four hours of upful reggae and dancehall vibes in original soundsystem stylee, and we're delighted to welcome two of the finest MCs in the country, Daddy Scotty and Puppa Zeb, to control the mic again. Last time out they had the place jumping, and we've been itching to get Scotty and Zeb back through - we're sure they'll mash it up in the dance once more.

Argonaut Sounds Reggae Soundsystem is back on Friday 17th June for our last session in Blackfriars before a summer break, and its gonna be a big one - we're delighted to welcome Manchester's finest MC Kwasi Asante to hold the mic. Kwasi is a veritable legend in the reggae scene with his top-ranking ruff and rugged style, and has appeared along side sound systems such as Dread Lion, Jah Guide and Freedom Masses, as well as locking down Glasgow with Mungo's Hifi.
We're keeping the entry at a shockingly cheap £3, and the Argonaut Sounds rig will be up and running from 11pm-3am, for four hours of upful vibes and sweet reggae music in original soundsystem stylee.

We'll have Dr Huxtable will be at the controls, found of the Axis Sound System, in Glasgow and on the Argonaut Sounds rig for the first time. Long time residents at the Wickerman Festival, where the Axis tent and cafe has always been one of the festival highlights, Axis try to keep the sound ‘original’, spinning roots and revival reggae in the style and fashion best suited for that music. argonaut sounds @ blackfriars with guest ista lion
On Friday 15th April Argonaut Sounds welcome Edinburgh-based MC Ista Lion to Blackfrairs for four hours of reggae and dancehall, 11pm-3am, and still only £3 in.
Hailing from Mandeville parish in Jamaica, an area with a rich heritage in reggae music, Ista Lion has worked with several UK sound systems north and south of the border, including Nation Vibration, Roots Garden, Messenger and Mungos' Hifi. Resident MC and selector at One Drop in Edinburgh, Ista Lion will be holding the mic at Argonaut Sounds for what promises to be a big night.

Tonight we're 'celebrating' the quatro/cinq-ennial carve-up that is the general election with a look at the blood-stained world of Jamaican politics (or in Rasta parlance, politricks) and the interplay between music and government.
In a country where drinking the wrong colour of beer can get the shottas on your back - red stripe = red = PNP, heineken = green = JLP - and the electoral murder count usually reaches the hundreds, Jamaican musicians have always had a bit to say.
Perhaps we ought to be grateful that over here all we have to deal with is a mountain of flyers, and the fact our votes don't make any difference...

Argonaut Sounds Reggae Soundsystem return with a new night at the Research Club (in the West End, just off University Avenue) on Friday 6th November. We’ll be running t'ings 10pm-2am, and filling the time with heavy roots reggae, bangin’ dancehall, and a bit of everything Jamaican in between.
Its £3 pon the gates, or £0 for early birds down before 11pm.

This week on Argonaut Sounds reggae radio show we'll be playing the 8th and final episode in our series of reggae documentaries, looking at the UK and Scottish scene.
The documentary examines the roots of the UK reggae scene, forged by Jamaican immigrants in the 50's and 60's who brought over soundsystem culture, through to the lovers rock period and the alliance with punk in the 70's, and the rise of DJs like Tippa Irie and Smiley Culture in the early 80's. We'll also look at some of the current ranking soundsystems inna Scotland.
All this, and usual mix of heavy roots and bangin' dancehall 6-8pm on Sunday...

Yagayo mi don dadda, this week on Argonaut Sounds we'll be playing the third in our series of documentaries on Jamaican music, looking at the rise of dancehall.
Towards the end of the 70s the dancehalls in Jamaica began to demand a change in the beat, and roots reggae died out to be replaced by a new breed of DJs. Dancehall arrived in all its glory, and has dominated Jamaican music ever since. We'll take a ride from the early days of Yellowman and co., up to the latest ragga and new roots beats.
