do we play fair with asylum seekers?
It seems to be the burning question on the DiF lines this week as it was revealed that the UK Borders Agency had canceled its contract to house asylum seekers with Glasgow City Council. It's caused some consternation out there with lots of you raging at lack of notice and the wording of letters being sent to those waiting on decisions on their asylum applications. Many families face being uprooted from the communities where they have made their homes and having to find new schools for their children.
A fair few of you wanted this to be this weeks topic so we bumped health, (again!). And duly followed your wishes listeners. What we want to know is do we play fair with asylum seekers? Some come from backgrounds we can't even imagine and are vulnerable and need support. Are we giving them a raw deal? Or is it a case of the needs of the majority outweigh the needs of the few?
Anne McLaughlin MSP: a politician who has been at the forefront of this debate with the Florence and Precious Mhango case will be joining us in the studio and we should hopefully have a feature from the Scottish Refugee Council and some case stories for you on the show this Sunday.
