what a week!!!
Get In The Van // 30.03.09 // What a freaking week!!!
Hey Everyone,
While on most episodes of Get in the Van I try to showcase as diverse and eclectic range of artists as possible, this week I have decided to focus on four amazing artists in particular, as they are all performing in Glasgow this week.
The only difficulty this week has been compiling a playlist that does sufficient justice to the work of Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and David Byrne. I personally think I've done rather well, have a listen and decide for yourselves!
See you all down the front at the Subbie!
catch you all soon

It's going to be quite a strange trip in the van tonight, swerving wildly from one extreme to another with some brilliant house and disco edits from Berlin's Soundstream as well as a couple of tracks by the awesome, but frankly terrifying, Cannibal Corpse. There'll be plenty of more moderate selections throughout the show as well. I hope some of you will join me later on,

Don't know about you guys, but I'm getting pretty excited about the art school/subcity halloween party tomorrow night, not least because I'll be kicking off proceedings downstairs with all kinds of ambient weirdness, chilling textures and blood curdling electronics before the Falconi Bros. and Findo Gask take over.
Tickets are selling fast, probably best getting them in advance, or turning up mega early tomorrow night to avoid disappointment.

a therapeutic trip in the van
Get In The Van // 20.10.08 // Grumpus
As I turned the keys in the ignition tonight, by my own standards at least, I was a veritable ball of fury and loathing but playing Shellac's magnificent "Canaveral" and "Song Against Itself" was a cathartic experience, and by the end of the journey I had reverted to my usual state of zen-like serenity.

I'm sure you will all be most upset to hear that your faithful van driver has been having an awful day, so I have decided to treat this evening's trip as a form of personal therapy. We also listened to beautiful music by some of the great acts who will be appearing in Glasgow over the coming weeks, which I hope will warm your hearts as the nights draw in.

Get In The Van // 06.10.08 // Mellon Collie and the Autumnal Sadness
On tonight's show I will present the usual smorgasbord of musical confection from across the sonic spectrum, Dan le Sac and Scroobius Pip to Juliana Hatfield and the awesome Errors. As always the playlist consists exclusively of music by artists you can see performing in this fair city over the next fortnight. Tonight's show will also feature what is, in my opinion anyway, the saddest song ever. So for that, and many other delights besides, I warmly invite you all to Get in the Van.

need for speed...
Get In The Van // 29.09.08 // GITV 2: Gone in 60 Seconds
Tonight I drove the van as if I had stolen it and managed (just about) to cram eighteen tracks into the hour. GITV 2 featured a breakneck (though rather inexpertly beatmatched, shame on me) Marcel Dettman mix as well as superb songs by Daedelus, Dan le Sac and Dananananackroyd, as well as (keeping with the alliteration for now) contributions from Roots Manuva and Ronnie Spector, as well as a beautiful tearjerker from Spiritualized.
I promised I'd write an events diary for music featured on tonight's show, so here goes...
Monday 29th September -Ronnie Spector and The Ronettes (Arches)
Tuesday 30th September -Frightened Rabbit (The Arches) -Friendly Fires (King Tut's)
Thursday 2nd October -Late of the Pier (Arches)
Saturday 4th October -Pivot (Sleazy's) -Marcel Dettman (Soundhaus)
Sunday 5th October -Daedelus (Captain's Rest) -Foals, Dananananackroyd, Holy Fuck (Barrowlands)
Wednesday 8th -Spiritualized (ABC)
Thursday 9th October -Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip Strathclyde Students' Union -Roots Manuva (Arches)
Friday 10th October -Errors (Oran Mor)
Sunday 12th -Sia (Arches)

Get In The Van // 29.09.08 // GITV 2: Gone in 60 Seconds
Having listened to last week's show I have decided that from now on I won't be announcing details for specific events on the show- it leads to complicated lists that I'll probably misread as well as taking up valuable time that I could be using to play more records, and it's boring chat frankly. From tonight onwards I will list upcoming performances by artists that have featured on GITV in an announcement I will post online at the same time as submitting my playlist.
Tonight's Get In The Van will feature music that straddles genres and decades, from Roots Manuva to Ronnie Spector. I'm ridiculously excited!

my first night at the wheel
Get In The Van // 22.09.08 // The first trip in the van...
That's the first show online, a slight shambles perhaps, but I guess that's part of the fun. Tonight we took a bit of of a joyride through the genres, from straight-faced techno and boggle-eyed rave to intimate acoustic tracks and some epic electronica. While each show will vary quite radically from the last in terms of playlist, I guess tonight was probably a fair representation of the sort of range of music you can expect to hear on Get In The Van
I had a good time in the studio tonight, and I'm already looking forward to next week's show. Hope some of you will have a listen this week, please use the forums to let me know if there was anything you especially liked, or alternatively anything you thought was unutterably rubbish.
Also let me know if there's any bands/producers/DJs playing in Glasgow over the next few weeks who you would really like to hear some music by
cheers,
Colin
