Initial Itch // 1500-1600 13.12.10

initial itch winterval special

Like a gazillion presents around the country, the show's wrapping up, so we're getting all festive. Guests this week include Santa and Jesus who'll be in the studio silently monitoring proceedings, but if that isn't enough, we've also got Cherry Loco who's on to talk about his gig at the Classic Grand. It's called Cherry Loco's Twisted Christmas, and it's a variety night of fire-eating, glass-walking and burlesque. It's all very wrong and depraved, so have a listen as Rob gives Cherry a roasting over 'objectification in burlesque'.

But we didn't stop there. Lee Ivett also made it in for a chat about The What's New Nad/Bax 60 Hour Shop. Lee is one half of Nadfly and Baxendale, and he's on to tell the story of how he gathered together half the city's artists and convinced them that, in the spirit of Christmas, they should basically give away their work to the people of Glasgow. Music's gone festive too, with Yuletide tuneage from Sufjan Stevens, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and John Lennon, from our own guys Daisy and the Pollen Counts (Who have put out a lovely little Christmas ditty this year for FREE!) as well as prospective Christmas No. 1 Cage Against the Machine.

Finally, Steve couldn't make it this week due to being a finalist in the Poetry UK Slam! Championships 2010 - well done Steve! So as a tribute we've included Steve's reading of arguably his finest poem 'Whimper'. Merry Winterval!
