An ode to an alternative America

an ode to an alternative america
This week, two men died who will be sorely missed. This edition of Initial Itch is dedicated to J.D. Salinger and Howard Zinn. Salinger you will probably know as the reclusive author of the era-defining Catcher in the Rye, though you may not have heard of Zinn, an American historian and civil rights activist who spoke alot of truth in his lifetime.
As memorial to these two visions of an alternative america, we've decided to broadcast Allen Ginsberg's epic, beautiful cry of a poem 'Howl' in it's entirety. It often feels, living as an artist in the UK, that culture here (not to mention politics) looks perpetually across the pond for guidance, and sometimes it can be difficult to countenance that view without being violently sick. This show is perhaps intended to be a little reminder that it ain't all bad.
Also, in addendum to Steve's poem Whimper, I'd like to say fuck you Howard and fuck you J.D.
Fuck you very much.
We'll be back next week.
