flowers of scotland - sat 14th nov 2009 - 1-2 pm
Hey folks,
After a brief hiatus, Journeys returns to continue the 2009/10 season - at the all-new show time of 1-2 PM.
This week's show is a celebration of the greatest little nation on Earth, Scotland!
I'll be playing a wee selection of tunes from the likes of Alex Harvey, Marmalade, Orange Juice, Stealer's Wheel, The Poets and however many more I can squeeze in to one hour.
The Spotlight this week is on one of my favourite bands of all time; The Beta Band. In an all too short career, the Beta Band released just 3 seminal EPs and 3 full-length albums (as well as a handful of singles). I'll be playing a small selection of tracks by them that I like a lot.
The Weird But Wonderful vote is between what must be a couple of the best known Scottish pop songs ever:

1. The Bluebells - Young At Heart
Originally written for and recorded by Bananarama, this much amended version was twice a hit for The Bluebells; first in 1984 and then again in 1993 (when it was No. 1 for 4 weeks), after featuring in a Volkswagen ad. The latter success inspiring violinist Bobby Valentino (the session violinist on the track) to sue for joint authorship.

2. The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
A song that must have formed the finale to a million drunken nights around the world, and which has also charted twice. First on original release in 1988 and again, when an alternative version featuring Peter Kay (as Brian Potter) and Matt Lucas (as Andy Pipkin) was released for Comic Relief, in 2007 (it was No.1 for 3 weeks - although I'm not sure anyone pays much attention to the charts anymore?). I am going to see them live on Friday the 13th.
