sweet soul music - sun 15th mar 2009 - 12-2 pm

Hey folks,

This week's show is the last FM broadcast, on 106.6 FM in Glasgow, for Journeys for this run.

The show is also probably the last 2-hour Journeys for a while as well.

I'll be playing a selection of music from 60s soul and r'n'b legends such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Sam & Dave, Sam Cooke, Gladys Knight, Solomon Burke, Aretha Franklin, Al Green and The Temptations, as well as some lesser known belters.

The Weird But Wonderful vote is at least making some attempt to be relevant this week; by featuring two groups who owe a lot to soul and r'n'b, but who ended up making Hip-Hop:

1. Public Enemy - Who Stole The Soul

One of the best, Public Enemy have been on the go for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages. This is a great, but fairly obscure, track from their 1990 album, 'Fear Of A Black Planet' - a classic.

2. The Pharcyde - Soul Flower

From the other side of the US comes this Fatback Band-sampling gem; another example of what Hip-Hop should sound like.

To decide which one plays the show out, get in touch during the live broadcast: studio@subcity.org or text 'subcity' then your message to 07766 40 41 42.

***********NOT REALLY THAT NEW ANYMORE***********

If you are on Facebook you can now join the 'Journeys Radio Show' group! I'm just getting to grips with the whole Facebook thing, but it'll be another place to let me know what you think, make suggestions/recommendations and to link to information about and streams of the shows.
