instru-mental ii - sat 21st nov 2009 - 12-2 pm
Hey there folks,
This week's show is back at the old regular time of 12-2 PM.
I'll be playing a selection of tunes without (many) lyrics; starting out with some 1950s and 1960s 'novelty' classics and then concentrating on the more funky, soulful side of things. Expect to hear from the likes of The Shadows, Lord Rockingham's XI, The Dave Pike Set, The Buena Vistas, The Above Average Black Band, Peter King, The Meters, Ennio Morricone and loads more.
The Spotlight is, for no particular reason, on French 'Library' funk this week. Library (or Production) Music is the name given to the music owned by production music libraries and licensed to customers for use in film, television, radio and other media. Although this definition includes music of all imagineable genres, the name has been taken up by music-heads to refer to a style of 1960s/70s, 'soundtracky' instrumental music, produced by a legion of relatively anonymous, but none-the-less massively talented session musicians and writers. I'll be playing a few tracks in that general style that I reckon are great. And that are from France.
The Weird But Wonderful vote is between a couple of tracks called, 'Words'. (Am I a genius or what?)

1. Missing Persons - Words
Lady Gaga's mom? Or just a severely wacky 80s pop combo?

2. Doves - Words
In my opinion, a classic. But it ain't up to me is it...?
