(Not) The End

Journeys // 1200-1400 10.05.09

(not) the end - sun 10th may 2009 - 12-2 pm

So, when I wrote this I was convinced the run was almost over... turns out there are a few more shows yet!

---------------------

Hey folks,

This week's show is the last of the current run.

As a grand finale to the 08/09 season I'll be playing a mixed bag of cracking tunes that, for various reasons, didn't make it onto the 25 shows that have already taken place (see http://www.subcity.org/listenagain/journeys).

Artists featured will likely include Eddie Bo, Kalyanji & Anandji, Talking Heads, Muddy Waters, Adam & The Ants, Leslie West, Sex Pistols, The Beta Band, Kenny Lynch and as many more as I can possibly cram in.

No Spotlight this week; instead I will be playing some tracks from the (very) few albums, to be released in the last year or so, that I have actually bothered to listen to!

The Weird But Wonderful Vote is between a couple of tracks that are loosely related, and which both lost out in previous WBW votes this year:

1. Babe Ruth - The Mexican

From the 'Oye Como Va' show (14/12/08), this is a great 'Fistful of Dollars' style rock track, the break from which Grandmaster Flash would often spin at his early block-parties. By a band from Hatfield in England.

2. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message

Do I really need to say anything about this track? It lost out to 'White Lines' in the 'Flash Got More Bounce' show (15/02/09). As you may remember, Flash actually had next to nothing to do with this song; but the record company were keen to use his name and his reputation to keep 'em selling.
