shows // Mortar & Pestle
Mortar & Pestle's radio show is an extension of the Mortar & Pestle digital record label, a Glasgow/Paris based, no-rules dance outlet. For each show we will have a hand picked selection of new and classic tracks that are as suited to the bedroom, studio or the office as they are to the dance floor. Taking elements of Tech-House, warped weirdness, edits of tracks you know, bass, disco and hip-hop. We'll have exclusive mixes by some of the world's most cutting edge DJs and tastemakers, calling in favours of our extended family who we've met along the way. Ideal to help you through your day or to hype your pre-club gatherings.
Our past guests include Shadow Dancer (BNR), In Flagranti (Codek, NYC), Deep Shit (Foals/Friendly Fires, NTS) and Beaner (Bar25).
Your host is Baby Diego, He'll be splicing and spinning live-mixes, custom-made tracks and edits. Our show is an open door to any producers who want to send us their work or mixes:
#19 in flagranti guest mix
From the Electronic Disco sound of Giorgio Moroder, Patric Cowley to the punkfunk of Liquid Liquid, A Certain Ratio and more contemporary sounds of todays dance music, their sets are an erotic, fun and surprising collage of all the above. Their seemingly never-ending output has included a long-running weekly party in New York ("Organic Grooves"), a legendary mix tape series in the 80s ("SMYLONYLON"), their own (now 16 year old) record label CODEK, days of video, 4 albums and over 80 official remixes for the likes of Riton, Supermen Lovers and Hercules & Love Affair on labels such as DFA, Kitsune and Modular. This staggering work rate and uncompromising attitude has earned them spots on the playlists and charts of a wide range of Djs including Ivan Smagghe, Trevor Jackson and Erol Alkan.
The duo, Alex and Sasha aim to explore the cosmic background in every possible way by creating and putting together different elements of art/graphic design and styles of music in to a seamless flow, which ultimately leeds them to create "In Flagranti", an act that would reflect all that, and continue to explore the endless possibilities of a 'cut and paste' esthetic. The unique, ever-changing environment of Jim Lambie's Poetry Club will house this party, steam-train smoke-machine and all.

Upstairs of Nice N Sleazy will be taken over by us at M&P this New Year's Eve. Here's some chat about it:
Launching in 2011, their first batch of monthly releases have taken in house, techno, deep house and their collective of producers have been churning out tracks that have attracted the attention of a wide range of tastemakers, from Diplo and Tiga to various DJs at Radio 1.
Baby Diego, is one half of Dolby Anol, the singer in Dananananaykroyd (and now their new band Alarm Bells) - he also (somehow) finds time to run the M&P label. His own productions have earned him deals as far a field as Japan and a long list of remixes due out in what will be an exciting new year.
Bossy Love is from from The Gold Coast in Australia. She is essentially the aussie equivalent of Ester Dean. She is top line writer to popstars the world over and an artist in her own right. Recently located to Netherlands, she is bringing her unique selections to the UK for the first time.
James V is DJ alias of the in-house visual designer at Mortar & Pestle. He's played his dark and deep style in a string of clubs in the capital as well as warm-up for acts like Drop The Lime in Glasgow.
The 3 will be playing b2b, nothing but party jams across all genres (as well as custom productions for the occasion) - all night!

#15: supreems guest mix
Supreems are a DJ duo out of Belgium, they've been building a solid following in their pocket of Europe and we thought it was about time someone on these shores shouted about them. They've been playing clubs and festivals all over, including I LOVE TECHNO. A fun house sound runs throughout their clubs sets, deep, 90's, piano and dare we say diva. If that wasn't enough they're starting to produce too, more on that (from us!) later..
This set was, as always a 'no rules' one. So they've taken the opportunity to play a load of stuff they don't get to play in a club environment.

#11 james v guest mix take over
Episode #11 is taken over by Mortar & Pestle's resident visual designer DCWID (aka. James V) The man responsible for all our release artwork/logo etc.
Although fairly new to the DJ scene he's already playing a wad of clubs in Edinburgh and warmed up for Dolby Anol and Drop The Lime at the Arches in Glasgow a few weeks ago. His selections are dark and repetitive, bleak but funky with the occasional kitsch curve-ball thrown in.
