Every day we pick up newspapers to have a good old chortle at world events and how those clever journalist types report them. Gathering the finest in stupid, weird and - God forbid – insightful articles from every news source we can plunder: each week the team will give a students' overview of the best and worst of the news, generally involving plenty of sarcasm and strange ideas. As if this isn’t enough, we’ll be mashing up said news trivia with a choice selection of only the tastiest tunes, all with a generous serving of banter on the side.

how dangerous is a seal?

Paper Mache // 23.01.11 // Seals, dogs, pet hamsters, other humans...

Is a seal the biggest threat to our nation's children? Is Obama saving the US economy by robbing Swiss banks? What is public hair? Had World War III begun? Is the legal system too complicated? Is zebra meat stripey? Are Specsavers stealing your mail?

These are questions. Paper Mache is answers.

hamster adventure week

Paper Mache // 27.09.09 // Where the wierd things are

This week we took a more serious turn than previous shows. Important discussion was fielded on the issue of lightsabers. Another key issue was exactly what is the face of a man shoving TNT up his bum. We also commented on John Smeatons' attempts at politics, how to propose via penguin and the best weapons available in a library (there's more than books there you know.)One of the biggest stories of the week was at Her Magesty's Pleasure and concerned the incorrect use of anti-bacterial gel. We took a closer look. The three minute rant was brought to you by Ruth, who got to let rip into a wee bit of political scullduggery.

Perhaps more importantly though, after the show "Paper Mache" and "Debate is Free" teamed up to go in quest of a hamster, traversing the lethal GWR and braving PAH to bring him home. We hope said hamster will accept the role of News Empire mascot, and yes, we photocopied his passport.

aliens and when pensioners attack

Paper Mache // 20.09.09 // Gollum and other pets

For our animal loving audience and indeed for animal listeners themselves we had a plethora of pet stories this week, from London pets favourite hangouts to Lord Byron's furry friend. Since Nikky has been away in the bigger smoke this week she brings us the best in local London news for one week only while I trawled the interweb looking for important articles that impact on the lives of all students. What I found was mostly rubbish about crop circles and retirees going a bit mental in the States.

Listen in if you want to hear about how long it takes for a banana to decompose and where exactly Gotham City is...

snakes, sarkozy and sheep.

Paper Mache // 13.09.09 // And now for the news...

This week we focused mainly on the really big stories rocking the media world. A lengthy debate was held about the benefits of carrier pigeons over broadband internet as well as the effect of a politicians stature on the voting public. Hear all about the tense situation at a Kent primary school where a sheep has been put into protective hiding so he can be sent to slaughter...

The first ever Three Minute Rant of the show was this week dedicated to energy saving lightbulbs, a topic dear to all our hearts. Isn't the world a funny old place.

The first show of it's kind on Subcity, this is Paper Mashe's first audio dip into the world of news. Please listen and enjoy a smug laugh at the glorious British media.
