gus da hoodrat (banggang deejays) @ rpz

On Wednesday 22nd Dec RPZ presents Gus Da Hoodrat (Modular/Bang Gang 12"s) at Stereo Cafe Bar on Renfield Lane.

Gus Da Hoodrat is one of the founders of Australia's Bang Gang deejay team - and a genuine red-haired Scots lad! After breaking out in Australia through running a notorious series of monthly parties, the Bang Gang formed their own label in 2005 and began flexing their creative muscles with a series of release that were spun by deejays all over the world. These Australian dudes scored further international notoriety on the back of two spectacular mix CDs for Modular Recordings - LSD (Light Sound Dance) in 2007, and D is for Disco, E is for Dancing in 2008.

RPZ have a long-term fanship with the Bang Gang duo Gus Da Hoodrat and Jamie Doom, having had them as guests on three previous occasions in Scotland over the last four years, as well as hosting an insanely memorable main room at Death Disco with their fellow Banggang-er DJ Ajax (whose label Sweat It Out was behind the Yolando Be Cool mega hit "No Speak Americano").

Since their last visit in 2008 the Bang Gang guys have been pretty damn busy - Hoodrat in particular has created a trio of absolutely astounding Finger Prince podcasts while BangGang 12"s have achieved international critical acclaimed for their label with releases showcasing the fertile and ever expanding talent on the Australian dance scene - Bag Raiders, G.L.O.V.E.S., Muscles, Flight Facilities, Light Year and Cassian - all of whom are regularly played out by most Glasgow underground clubs and deejays. But not satisfied with spinning out amazing tracks as a deejay and releasing some of the most interesting new dance artists on the Bang Gang label, Hoodrat also creates some fantastic music of his own under the PRINCE FINGERS moniker. His recent self titled 12" release on Bang Gang 12's has been creating demented levels of excitement, with none other than Tiga remarking that Prince Fingers is "the sound of the future".

RPZ are quite honestly shaking with excitement at having this Aussie dude back in Glasgow and are looking forward to one blistering night of digital euphoria, one last chance to rattle our bones before the clubbing population sit down to a full week of xmas food and over-indulgence. The support duties as always will be ably handled by RPZ team Hushpuppy, Bonjour Boi and Joe Crogan. By now you should know to expect on the very finest selection of irresistibly danceable diskotecas, street-beat boogie, cybernetic soul, galactic disco, Rimini sound, italo stylings, Oz-matic house and delinquent tech-beats all accompanied Crogan's dazzling manipulation of video-loops and eye-popping polygonal animations.

RPZ

Invites you on a COSMIC VOYAGE departure from Earth scheduled -

Friday 26th November. 11pm GMT.

STARSHIP STEREO 22-28 Renfield Lane 11-3am £8/6

On Friday 26th November RPZ present a 'Cosmic Voyage' with guest deejays DEN HAAN. This will be a special one-off event dedicated to cosmic disco, space-concept rock and galactic boogie which will boldy go where no club has gone before.

RPZ have been toiling feverishly in a secret government research facility helping devise and perfect a revolutionary new form of interplanetary propulsion - the DISCO DRIVE! Harnessing the extraordinary power of the synthesised night rhythms, RPZ are now able to invite the select few on a journey through the galaxy - an inaugural flight - to test out the viability of this extraordinary method of travel.

Lift of from the planet earth will be piloted by the glasgow based dj Delusions of Grandeur, easing us free from the atmosphere and into a stable orbit of the Moon. From here passengers will be propelled through the Solar System with RPZ at the controls, passing by asteroids, planets and breathtaking stellar phenomenon at unimaginable speeds. As the throbbing beats of the DISCO DRIVE reaches optimum efficiency, Glasgow's own deities of disco DEN HAAN will take over the controls. Channelling the mystic energies of their UNIARIAN religion the DEN HAAN duo will release a series of complex italo-disco equations into the vacuum of space causing euphoric ruptures in the very fabric of the disco space/time continuum.

Possibly....

The RPZ team offer this one-off excursion through the beauty and mystery of our universe, and have searched deep within their record collections to unearth mystifying chucks of concept space rock and precious cosmic disco diamonds to fuel this DISCO DRIVE unit. JOE CROGAN will be on hand to catalogue the sights on this monumental odyssey, projecting each swirling nebulae, strobing pulsar and mystical alien artefact on the inner hull of the Starship Stereo for the entertainment of our passengers and crew.

Don't miss this opportunity to experience the thrill of inter-stellar space travel, though who knows what we will discover on the very edges of the know Universe...

(*Passengers should take note that on return to the earth more than 500 years will have elapsed. Contact with Alien Lifeforms is not guaranteed.)

RPZ firmly put thursday night up the Arty firmly on the map with their resident based line-up and intermittent scene-breaking live acts. final rpz at the art school

RPZ // 06.07.10 // One last time up the Arty

On thursday 24th June 2010 RPZ presented their final night in the Vic Bar and bid farewell to the Art School for EVER.

It has been just over 8 years since Record Playerz started their night in the Vic Bar in the Glasgow School Of Art. Since that time, the night has grown to be one of the largest and most successfully weekly club nights in Scotland. There have been a great many fantastic nights in that time, many firm friends have been met and been made over the years and the club has been, and continues to be, the blue-print for many many other nights that have come in its wake.

However the time has come to move on. There have been a number of changes in the dj booth at RPZ over the years - founder HiFi Sean departed in 2006 to be replaced by Bonjour Boi and Jackson Stars. Stars himself left in 2008, and most recently the night has now bid farewell to Bonjour Boi who now resides in Stockholm with his beloved girlfriend.

It is this most recent departure has led to a serious re-think of what the night is about, and where RPZ is going.

Left on my again, I decided that I didn't want to recruit another new dj. I had become so used to djing with the Bonjour Boi I doubt any partnership could be as rewarding and enjoyable. It would be like trying to replace my best friend. And that being the case, I also knew I couldn't spare the time needed to run a weekly night if I was going to do it alone.

So the decision had to be to abandon RPZ as a weekly event, adapt it to a monthly party, AND have it on the weekend. Try out a whole new venue on a completely different night. So RPZ will live on, and as a monthly it will still be able to have myself and Bonjour Boi as its residents. Details of the new venue are still being worked out, but the RPZ gang will be back with their first event in late August, with plans to return with their Aussie brothers the Bang Gang deejays.

We hope that you will be able to make it along to our final farewell to the Art School. Its bound to be a tearful affair. RPZ has been the best thing i have ever created, and the most fun i have ever had at a club night, with all the best friends i have ever met. Far more fun that any one person could ever deserve.

I'm gonna miss it up the arty.

And remember kids, I'm gonna miss YOU most of all.

Hushpuppy 2010.

rpz presents dobly anol (dj set)

RPZ // 24.05.10

On thursday 27th May 2010 RPZ present DOBLY ANOL for a special guest dj set!!

No strangers to the RPZ dancefloor (or most other glasgow club nights), Dolby Anol are one of Scotland's most inventive and respected electronic producers.

Hailing from Glasgow the duo have carved an enviable reputation for themselves with a series of blistering EPs that demonstrate a devious and imaginative approach to dance music.

Their releases - including Puppies, Tender Touch, Macaroon/Cameron and most recent Sandy Bitches - take a particularly skewed but wildly inventive approach to the business of delirious dancing, jumping from genius cheesy 80's MOR disco samples to thoughtfully skeletal and superlative techno. This playful diversity has won them a varied collection of admirers ranging from BBC radio populist Annie Mac to kings of belligerent beats the Boyz Noise.

As always RPZ residents Bonjour Boi and Hushpuppy will be spinning out their own brand of sweat inducing digital disco delirium, grinding together electro, rave, jerky bassline, italo, synthetic disco, French sound, gay hi-NRG, Oz-matic punk-house and delinquent techno.

Glowing pop-art projections and über gay-cosmic visuals are provided by one-man videoteque Joe Crogan .

special guest -felix cartal (dim mak) 4th feb 2010

THURSDAY 4TH FEB ONLY - FELIX CARTAL (Dim Mak) - DJ SET.

R-P-Z takes place every thursday DOWNSTAIRS at the Glasgow School Of Art Student Association. RPZ deejays specialise in digital stimulation design to provoke and maintain non-stop dancing.

On Thursday 4th of February RPZ present FELIX CARTAL (DJ SET) at the Glasgow School Of Art.

Felix Cartal is a Canadian artists based in Vancouver who in the past two years has risen to international prominence among a new wave of dance artists who have built their profile squarely upon blogging and free file sharing. Through the popularity of tracks released on myspace, Felix quickly became a familiar name not only among the trend-leading new blogs, but also among some of the most important of the emerging stars of this new scene, with his is tracks became regular spins for the likes of MSTRKRFT, Crookers, Steve Aoki and Felix Da Housecat.

Felix's productions, early favourites like Vancouver and his most recent Skeleton EP, demonstrate a pre-occupation with filtering the rawness of the punk rock into electronic music aimed at the dancefloor, directly drawing influences from digital punk rock bands like NOFX and Lighting and the sparse electronics of James Holden and Alter Ego.

From humble beginnings as a bedroom bound computer nerd, Felix is now signed to Steve Aoki's Dim Mak label alongside MSTRKRFT, Armand Van Helden, Bloody Beetroots, Shinichi Osawa, Pase Rock, Whitey and Glasgow's own Shitdisco

As always RPZ residents Bonjour Boi and Hushpuppy will be on hand to provide the cybernetic backbone to the nights rhythmic entertainments. Amid the glowing pop-art projections and dizzying cosmic visuals they will be spinning out their own brand of sweat inducing digital disco delirium, grinding together electro, rave, jerky bassline, italo, synthetic disco, French sound, gay hi-NRG, Oz-matic punk-house and delinquent techno.

heartbreak (dj set) @ rpz - 12th nov

Thurs 12th Nov - Italodisco heroes HEARTBREAK hit the RPZ for a zuper-hott dj set.

Purveyors of a very particular brand of, shall we say, 'tres emotional' 80's euro pop, Heartbreak have become the leading live performers in the worldwide Italo-disco renaissance. From relatively humble beginnings in London, their sound and tales of their melodramatic live shows, have drawn the attention of the like of The Presets, Neon Neon, Block Party and La Roux.

Now finding success across the globe through tours with The Presets and Cut Copy, Heartbreak are now joining the Modular Records stable of talen. Consequently they make a perfect choice for RPZ guests, as for many years we have both championed the now sound Wizards of Oz - Presets, Midnight Juggernauts, Bang Gang DJs - as well as having made 80's digital pop and italo part of our sound from the clubs beginings over 8 years ago.

RPZ are super excited to welcome Hearbreak's keyboard wizard Ali Renault for this very special set - guaranteed free of the usual big-room fidget/bassline promo MP3's that clog every guest dj playlist of the moment. Instead Ali promises a dazzling mix of electro, italo pop, seminal house and throbbing euro disco.
