The Phar'i-sees // The Brutes
Subcity Sessions // 2000-2200 05.03.09
the brutes + the phar'i-sees tomorrow
This episode of Subcity Sessions will take place on Thursday 05th March at The Research Club, 13 University Gardens, 8-10PM (free entry, limited space) and of course on 106.6 FM and online.
The Brutes // The double Gordons & Jim have played in a vast array of bands, including The Sinster Urge, Bangtwister, The Campus Tramps, One God Universe, Glen Or Glenda, Macrocosmica, a Black Flag covers band called Six Pack, The Underground Apes, The Golden Guineas, Bug Powder aka Cold Sick, Bulb, Bubblewrap Holocaust, Trousered, The Grease Monkeys, and The Poison Sisters. Godfathered by The Troggs, The Brutes play raw garage punk that hits you right in the face. It's not pretty, but it's not supposed to be either.
The Phar'i-sees // Straight from Subcity's Saturday Shakedown come The Phar'i-sees, a 60s influenced garage rock band that would have made Ed Cobb proud. Subcity Sessions has seen them live on several occasions and their performance gets better and better every time. Listen closely for the song 'Mantrap' which is Sessions' absolute favourite. In addition to their own, great material, The Phar'i-sees usually also play a couple of good covers, like The Standells' classic 'Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White' and the epic 'Have Love, Will Travel' by Richard Berry.
