Double Diamond Soul

double diamond soul
Last week Fraser and I were discussing the role of bar towels in soul and their occasional appearance in in the back pockets of northern soul fans in photographs from the seventies. Emblazoned with an advert for beer, ale being more popular oop north than lager they apparently were used to mop up the sweat of cavorting dancers. Available on draught and in bottles and heavily advertised by Tetley Brewers with the slogan "A Double Diamond works wonders, works wonders, works wonders. A Double Diamond works wonders, so drink some today!". I'm not sure they could fit on a bar towel purloined from a pub counter.
Today's edition of Soulful Allsorts is a Double Diamond edition as we've chalked up 120 episodes on Listen Again and we maintain a quality control regime tougher that Tetleys and all are eminently tuneful. At least two nods to Motown, a brace of deep soul songs, new stuff, old stuff and a great mix of soul guaranteed.
And thanks to everyone who turned up for South sided soul last week especially our guest DJ Stevie.
