at the talkies // domino records and ten tracks

Amongst the usual fare of film and industry events at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, this year they have been hosting a new strand, Sound Tracks. Events have ranged from open discussions through to the expected film and documentaries (even a Kings of Leon flick for the kids) as well as regular club nights throughout the fortnight (appearances from Den Haan, Hushpuppy and Rustie (LuckyMe) at the end of this week).

Bringing with them a bunch of ideas, Domino Records are up in Edinburgh for a variety of events that are taking place. Label artists have been working in collaboration with filmmakers to bring us a series of creative live music and film events such as Shadow Shows with Pram in collaboration with Film Ficciones. As well as events like these they are hosting Cut & Paste on Thursday, 23rd June, a demonstration of how to cut music and film together alongside a discussion about how the relationship between filmmaker and musician can be nurtured.

Ten Tracks are also getting involved with Music Pictures, a one-off event on Friday, 24th June. Artists including Iona Marshall, R M Hubbert, Found and Kid Canaveral have each invited filmmakers to create original films for one of their tracks. The winning films will be selected by the artists and shown accompanied by live performance on the night.

Gareth and Nick spoke to some of those involved.
