transmission/ten: state of the nation(s)

Transmission // 30.04.09 // Transmission/TEN: state of the nation(s)

State of the Nation - interesting chapter, but we're not going to play it. But what we need to talk about is trends, feelings... we need to go deeper into the groove of the time and understand the sentiment of this music I'm going to play you...

So here we go, this time let's tru to dig a little further.. and look at the state of the nations... it's so bloody interesting.

We're going to be listening to lot of stuff that isn't the 'obvious' new wave stuff and understanding the landscape behind it - or trying to make sense of those times, these times, this time looking through the distance...

Hear you there. x

transmission on the 23rd

Ears of women and ears of men, sadly we can't bring you Transmission this Thursday due to forseeable but unchangeable circumstances.

The playlist for the 30th is incredible though, and we'll be broadcasting straight through May. So see you next Thursday, with some excellent music and more post-industrial chat. The world will turn dayglo.

Many kisses, synthetic kiss, lover lover, Tirana Love Lunch.

transmission/nine: playing with a different sex

Transmission // 16.04.09 // Transmission/NINE: Playing with a different Sex

So, what about the women in all of this?

I am joined in the studio by Ella to speak of women and their place in post-punk and new wave, their agenda, their music, their sound, their careers... What resonance did these girl bands have? How did they carry into the future?

What were the girls doing?

Two women listen to women and we all speak as women of women, this Thursday in Glasgow on Transmission.

Hear you there.

Flora, Ella and Anita everpresent.

transmission/eight: the other classics

Transmission // 09.04.09 // Transmission/EIGHT: The Other Classics

Ok, so I've been in Rome I've been in the Sun I've been distracted and districted I've decided to play the other classics, or the classics of the other.

What do I mean by that? Absolutely no idea, but I don't care, I'm too post-punk to care. So I guess the classics of the other are just the classics that aren't traditionally my own, but have become classics for me over time and they are classics for so many people.

It's a bunch of bloody great songs, wonderful new territories, I need to dance! so happy velvet morning to you all.

Transmission // 02.04.09 // Transmission/SEVEN: (under)COVER (re)COVER (dis)CO

This is a cover version of T R A N S M I S S I O N, in which I leave you with Kieran and Chris covering me and covering up for me as I listen from the glorious Roman terrace, playing covers of new wave and post-punk or new-wave and post-punk covers of 'other' material.

it's a cover within a cover within a cover.

Who knows what you may dis/cover. I'll be back on the 9th, by then you will have re/covered.

Enjoy this Special Guest Special Edition Trans-mission with my two special Radio Boys.

creative. modes. of. complaint.

Transmission // 26.03.09 // Transmission/SIX: CREATIVE. MODES. OF. COMPLAINT.

There is this wonderful energy throughout music made in the 1980s, this magnificent ability to complain about every single aspect of this rotten industrial world (gasp!) but in the form of these wonderful, strong, ridiculous anthems... well that's what I'm playing. This episode reads a bit like this: i hate work, i hate my indifference, i hate my lovelife, you hate me, well then fine, i hate the rest, everything is grey, wrong, warped, loveless so L E T ' S D A N C E.

See you there...

transmission/five: love, tv, and the 'scene'...

Transmission // 19.03.09 // Transmission/FIVE: Love, TV, and the 'scene'...

Grab a black coffee and join me, back into the English language, and let's complain about posers, despair over our instability, fall in love (again) with our television, lay on the feminist post-punk... Allez, it's Spring, let's have a mixed-feeling Thursday.

Transmission // 05.03.09 // Transmission/THREE: who's afraid of modernity?

Fusing the private and the public, friends and enemies, the old and the new. Copy and paste mythologies.

I'm in love with my saxophone and my television wants to eat me.

f i l m. n o i r. f e e l.

Transmission // 26.02.09 // Transmission/TWO: F I L M. N O I R. F E E L.

The second Transmission and the first on FM will go into dark, urban territories in search of the most mysterious, filmic, almost criminal sounding music made in the late 70s and early 80s. Featuring tracks with names such as Black Silk Stocking and Red Light, this episode is an opportunity to put on your slickest suit, your Ray Bans, backcomb your hair and dance dance dance... commençons ce cinèma!
