Edition #226. Transitory Formats / = / This Work will cease to exist.
"What is this digital dark age you are worried about?"
The digital format archive of this performance will last no longer than 15 years. It could be argued that this digital recording doesn't really exist at all - mere magnetic pulses echoing in cyberspace. Will the programming format of the Subcity Website still be accessible in the coming decades? Will people still be using devices that can stream this content in its current form?
Technological advancement is as rapid as it is replaceable. This edition works in vernaculars of non-club sounds, digital and electronic recordings and materials whose formats will likely no longer be playable, or the data intelligible as music, in the very near future.
Invitees in this presentation :- Fumu, Lanark Artefax, Roedelius, Brainwaltzer, Felix Mankar, Sugai Ken, Richard Pinhas, Suba, Kate Gately, Aïsha Devi.... and otherzzzzzz.
The urgent futures that we devour with our ears in the present so quickly become the whispers of a past we no longer have any interest in. I like this, and today the music moves, for a flickering instant, simply to illuminate this notion.
