Yugoslav, Hungarian & Czech synth new wave selections.
A short duration exploration and celebration of some central and eastern European artists. Spanning a time frame from the mid 1970's to the mid 1980's, the selections cover prog rock, Berlin-School influenced synths, new wave rock, synth pop, wonky lounge organ music - all given a unique flavouring of traditional national musical styles.
The interest so often within the ersatz reframing of western musical forms is in the uniquely culture specific twist that artists bring to their releases. And that pleasure is here in multiplicity.
There are also a couple of contemporary edits which are reluctantly included (only because i was not able to identify the original artists whose music is being appropriated by the label concerned).
For a dedicated enthusiast of the musical output of the east European countries this probably isn't much of a challenge. This show has no claims to present an authoritative overview, its merely (as always) just a chance to share my enthusiasms and joys with others. I have accumulated many of these tracks over the years, and with a little extra research over the festive period, managed to put together what i think is a really enjoyable and zingy selection.
I also took a good look through the Subcity archives to see how other programmers had approached this genre, and there are a good few impressive shows - of which i would strongly recommend the excellent Radio Dacha's 'Yugotunes' edition!
Share & respect, credit & celebrate. More music, more, MORE. Always.
