\\ burn down tinsel town //
Audio mix devised as an iconoclastic conceit, a pyromaniacal provocation, a small resistance to club culture hegemonic practice.
Less common modes of muscular industrial funk diaspora. This mix starts somewhere, goes somewhere…. comes back.
I’m thinking about the persistence of orthodoxies - deeply held but un-questioned ideas about authority in the cultural sphere. How commerce and material manifestations of status-seeking forms a dominant discourse. What happens when many stories reduce to one story, when one sign-post begins to dominate the landscape, becoming fixed, the norm, un-challenged?
How do we challenge the proliferation of “star system’ models of success? Where are the spaces for plural marginal outside voices - queer, female, black, dispossessed, state-less, de-centered, subaltern. How do we support the dispersal of value and reward?
DON’T STOP / DOESN’T STOP
These sounds are not the comforting fog-throb of techno, the cosy familiarity of house snares. Remove “bangers and ‘heaters from your selective process. Possibly. But you can dance, you can move, and maybe not move. Be static and channel this smaller constituency of meanings.
Jagged, frayed, inconsistent… troubling?
Not really, because that is just another set of rules in the end, right? get it?? I do, and thats the point.
I don’t make any of my radio shows or mixes * just for myself* who is that much of a narcissist? I make them to be listened to, i spend time creating in order to share, and this music is a joy worth sharing i believe. So i keep doing it.
Listen then, cos i’d really like that.
