Record Store Day

Record Store Day

It feels, at the moment, like we are constantly being told that no-one cares about buying music - that it has been devalued, that downloading is killing it, that soon it will be consumed entirely by having liquidized versions of shitty chart hits injected directly into our eyeballs.
Not at Subcity.
Saturday April 20th 2013 sees the 7th annual Record Store Day, where those who love to listen, dig, collect, alphabetise, and obsess gather together to celebrate independent music retailing and why it matters. To celebrate, the station is hosting some of its best DJs in a vinyl-only clubnight WAX ON/WAX OFF at the Berkeley Suite.
We also wanted to get some chat with the vast numbers of amazing record shops in the city, and find out about the impact of RSD for them. We'll also be hosting discussions with collectors from within and outside the station, to find out about their most prized vinyl, and why they think searching out, buying and collecting records is still important.
Long live the independent record shop!
