NMGS

Bringing the richness, sheer joy and passion of a wide range of 60s and early 70s music, and their scenes, to the modern, young (or not) audience. Read on for the ins and outs of the station.

While there has been a fairly recent, fairly decent 60s and 70s afghan-coat-hippie revival (dramatic shirt, balayage and flares), I think it ought to be taken further. While the fashion is unmatched, it is easy to forget where it came from – why did the new generation of 60s girls shamelessly embrace the controversial miniskirt? Why did the boys grow their clean cuts into wild locks, shaken into damp knots tightened by rock n roll? Why did, among an acid-fuelled frenzy, a sexual revolution explode and splatter the white picket fences of not only the West, but the entire world with its million colours? And most importantly, who were those whose voices were the ones to cry, over a chorus of guitars, for the new generation’s freedom, for justice and peace?

Our generation needs the mentality this music comes from and generates. The reason why governments banned the rock of the 60s is the same reason many presenters refused to stop playing it: because of the power it gives to those seeking to break free, just like with jazz and with funk, and music is one of the only ways to really communicate this. It also represents a unique blending of cultures that created a sound that influences countless artists to this day – I could go on and on.

Essentially, I think young people these days could especially benefit from music of the 60s and early 70s: get over social-media-induced insecurity and let slicked back hair down a bit.

So that's what NMGS is for! Tune in and have a boogie, have a chill one, get absolutely baked out of space or blare the Stones through your tinny HiFi -- all four are recommended.
