Hanging By A Crotchet - Paris & the Belle Époque

Hanging By A Crotchet episode 25-01-12
Hanging By A Crotchet | 12/01/2025 10:00 - 12:00

We are returning to the airwaves this Sunday 10-12, with a brand new show exploring Paris and the Belle Époque!!

After the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71 and prior to the calamitous First World War in 1914, France and Europe entered a period of cultural, societal, and technological innovation that produced not only some of the most delightful art, music, and literature but also the building of the Eiffel Tower, the advent of cinema, and the widespread adoption of the electric light, telephone, and personal automobile, amongst many other revelations. This brief moment of relative peace before Europe was ravaged by war became known retrospectively as the Belle Époque - ‘the beautiful era’

Longtime listeners to HBAC will be somewhat familiar with this period as we focused on a major movement of the Belle Époque in our first ever episode - Impressionism. To hear more beautiful impressionist music and discover more art from Paris at the turn of the 20th century join us next Sunday at 10-12 or listen back when the recording is made available
