It is 2001 and the Strokes have just kicked off a post-punk revival with their album Is This It. Meanwhile, art-school students in Europe with a craving to experiment and a love for an obscure 1982 new-wave film are also re-electrifying punk music. With their punchy, socially-aware yet danceable electronic music, a genre called “Electroclash” emerges. We will explore the inspirations of this genre from the high-energy, funky bass lines of 80s post-punk to the dreamy, synth-filled early electronic scene.
