Subcity Rewind - Subcity Garden Party (2010)

“Some of us have got real jobs…like listening to music and that.” 29/05/2010
Subcity Rewind | 03/11/2024 17:00 - 18:00

In its 15th year of broadcasting, Subcity Radio was temporarily moved to a building on Southpark Avenue, on the University of Glasgow campus, while the McIntyre Building’s roof underwent repairs. We’ve found an episode recording from this time, dating 24th April 2010, which showcases a “electricity-free Garden Party” described as a collaboration between Scottish musicians RM Hubbert and Wounded Knee, made somewhere on Southpark Avenue.

At 5pm we’ll be rebroadcasting this - tune in for RM Hubbert’s acoustic guitar compositions, traditional a capella performances by Wounded Knee, and field recordings from the event.

"We went outside to our back garden, set a protocol for a field recording and invited two unique performers: RM Hubbert and Wounded Knee along. Punks, Subcity club night regulars, older dudes, passerbys and even a bunch of kids turned up, we drank some beers, ate some cake to celebrate Cry Parrot's 3rd Birthday, and aside from recording post-modern hebridian waulking songs, football chants and flamenco guitar, created a cacophonic mix of improvised performance, audience participation, bird-song, aeroplanes, mobile phones, guitar cases, cars and drain gurgles." - subcity.org News Post: 'Come Outside', 29/05/2010
