Sonoscope - Hide in Toorich City, Where Fate Can't Find Us
Toorich City is an art project by the Artist Huang Heshan. In a strange, dreamlike way, it captures the look of Chinese cities in the millennium years: oddly shaped high-rises, blue glass windows, blocks packed too close together. It struck a chord with a whole generation.
The same nostalgia can also be found all over the Chinese underground music scene. Old internet memes, jokes from a version of the web that's long gone, the kind of thing you only remember when you hear it again. Their sound is often as experimental as it gets, but what it reaches for is the road that brought them here. And most of all, it feels like going home: back to the past, where it's warm and safe.
So let's build a Toorich City out of music. Let's go back to that warm corner of memory,where time never got old.
